The story of Aang traveling through the territories of the elemental nations to learn to become an Avatar, a unique being capable of restoring the balance of powers, has long fascinated the public. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation did not exactly win over the audience. Becoming a failure both critically and at the box office, one might have thought that no one else would attempt the adventure. That was without counting on Netflix, which has decided to take up the challenge this time by choosing the series format.
The actress playing Katara, Kiawentiio, had then added: “I feel like we also eliminated the sexist side [of Sokka]. There were many moments in the original story that seem questionable to me.” To which Ian Ousley reacted: “Yes, totally.” The creators left the series for such obvious reasons.
